@Dashrender @black3dynamite yeah I hear you on the Windows VM side. The main reason why not is if I run into problems running something in Linux I'll want to boot and work on windows until I get time to work on the Linux side again.

Also last time I tried, it only lasted me a few days maybe a week and went back to windows so I want that option again without a full format and reinstall.

Once I'm happy u can work in Linux and maybe just need a VM for minor things.

So install Linux as the VM - problem solved.

Running dban on a desktop - Like an old car in a used car lot... everything must go.. Two of the three going are nuked to DoD level - the old NTG box will be last as it's the one I use the most other than my laptop... Then it'll be added to the list to go...

Sad to see it all go... but onward and all that whatevers.

trying to make @scottalanmiller 'proud' by solving my own Linux issues.

Setting up L2TP VPN on Ubuntu to connect to the office. One step closer to being Windowless....

Kinda surprised it's not ZeroTier, unless the point is to learn how to do L2TP in Ubuntu.

After thinking about the feedback on previous post about moving to Linux. Yeah I think to start a Linux VM in Virtual Box to play with different software and test what works.

Then when i'm happy I can swap round and have Linux as the main OS and a Windows VM in that for things that don't work.

*Will be a new year project 🙂

Why VirtualBox and not Hyper-V if Windows is your base, or KVM with Windows in the VM?

@scottalanmiller Because I hate Hyper-V I find VirtualBox or VMWare Player is easier to use on a Windows Desktop machine

                                          You have Hyper-V? Why?

And the obvious choice is KVM, it's Windows you want in the VM, not Linux.

He's talking about a desktop setup. In his other thread he spoke of dual booting - to which I asked - why have the hassles of dual booting - instead use a VM.

Then as he mentioned above - he's thinking currently he'll have a Windows desktop with a Linux VM because he's more comfortable in Windows - then as he becomes more comfortable in Linux, he'd switch them around. So he might ultimately end up with KVM and a Windows VM, that wasn't his current desire.
