Synology and ReadyNAS units would be my first choices.

Of the NAS's I've looked at, and only having used 3 ever (Buffalo, Segate (uck) and Synology), The Synology line has me hooked right now. So simple to operate and easy to deploy.

Buffalo is near in that they have a Windows offering.

Seagate, WD and QNAP all worry me.

Synology and ReadyNAS are the two most recommended ones I see.

I'm not sure if Drobo has a 4-bay option...

@scottalanmiller Seagate surprised me with what a POS their NAS offering is. Not at all happy with it.

I use a consumer GoFlex Home Personal and actually have three at three different sites (one/site). I only use two. One at my home in NY. One here in TX. I have been very happy with them. They are single drives and 2TB. Not even close to a business unit but for what I paid I've been very happy.

That being said, I would love to have a good 4-bay NAS. Heck, even a 2-bay NAS in a RAID 1 would be cool. Western Digital actually has a version of their MyBook Live that's a 4TB model with two drives in a RAID1. Thought that was pretty neat. Last I knew it was $350 at the cheapest on a good sale. But still, pretty awesome.

Drive makers don't make the best storage appliances. Just doesn't go together. Their interest is in selling drives. WD does a little better, but it is a weak offering too. It's RAID 5 only so that you have to buy super expensive RE drives.
