I don't have a chip/pin card yet (well maybe my AmEx is one, but I'm not sure I know what the PIN is for it).

I have setup ISIS/SoftCard on my phone. While limited to only a few CC options, I did happen to have one (AmEx) and tried it out last week.

It's definitely not as fast as just swiping a card, but trading the time to log into my phone (no touch yet - not that I will use it to ever unlock my phone), log into the app, touch the phone to the scanner vs pulling my wallet out, pulling the card out, and signing... it's probably a wash.

Another note, some scanners are a lot more sensitive than others. The one at McD's required me to place the phone directly on the pad before it registered. The one at Whole foods detected the phone when it was still 1.5 inches away - in fact it was so fast the gal handed me my receipt before I even realized the transaction was complete.

I'll update my wife's iPhone 6 tonight or tomorrow and then set it up for her. I do not have one yet so I will not get to use it.
Panera Bread has their registers ready and the tap to pay signs up.

And they aren't as popular in Texas as they are in NY.

Well, I used the term Panera Bread for the wider audience in here. Locally they are still called St. Louis Bread Co.

                AKA: they are everywhere.

They are delicious though. By whatever name you call them.

I have not looked into it. Where will you be able to use it?

I have been wondering that too. Where can one use an iPhone tap to pay system today?

Panera bread if your local one is updated. Whole Foods is another that has been rolling it out.

We use a tap for water...

I've used one called paywave on a card, took less than 5 seconds to process the payment and print the receipt. I don't like it because I can't turn off the NFC like payment field.

On a phone, however, that's another story. I haven't used one yet but I like the idea of being able to turn off NFC.

You don't need to turn off the NFC (but you can). before it will work, you have to enter a Pin for the app on android - maybe you have to scan your finger on the iPhone.

McDonald's, Panera, Subway, Amco gas stations, Wholefoods, etc.

By this time next year, nearly everyone will probably support it.

I know petco has it, bestbuy, all of our local grocery stores, heck, my wifes store and her paw's store just received new card stations from their provider (FirstData) to allow them to accept the apple pay etc. Sad news, none of our debit cards qualify and we dont really use our credit cards. here's to waiting for our Debits

I saw it appear in the app store. But it looks like you need a special app for every business where you want to use it?

I can't speak for the Apple side of things - but on Android There are two options (that I know of) ISIS/SoftCard and Google Wallet. Both offer different options but function the same. It's also possible that currently different banks have signed up with each app/company, I would suspect that most banks will do all the popular apps by summer next year when a large percentage of the new Card Stations have been deployed.
