What would you all recommend for a basic intranet? I am not a coder, haven't done it in, well let's just say I can say decades. Not against learning anything. All I really need is a way to organize information, the intranet now is a basic html page with some simple php. It basically just presents information and links to various sites that we need access to. We need a little more functionality. We need some places were our users can upload files, like the HR people being able to upload new HR documents for the office etc. We then also need a page for some of our users to list contacts. I work in the public sector so this isn't like sales, we just need to list contacts at hospitals/agencies/ etc that we steer people to. I would like for that to be searchable. I am looking at Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal, possible Sharepoint. Any suggestions would be helpful. I really need something that once setup will pretty much be hands off for me.

If you are going to use Wordpress @Tim_G listed plugins and themes that he is using on his wordpress wiki.

Wordpress is definitely in the lead.

        That is STNG template, neato.

I'll recommend Drupal. It's the most flexible and you can build anything. It's great for very simple sites or really complex ones.

The farthest that I ever got with Drupal was installing it.

I've gotten farther. I uninstalled it.

Pantheon makes playing around much easier. Anything I build I start on Pantheon and then move it to wherever.

I'm still evaluating https://wiki.js.org/. I have it installed and setup, and I love the interface, but have not had a lot of time to really test it out in a production environment yet.

Wordpress is definitely a solid choice, especially with the right plugins.

I've been playing with https://wiki.js.org/ as well and I'm really loving it. It's still fairly young it seems but looks promising. Been spending a lot of time migrating notepad and word file documentation to it over the last week or two.

I also use Wordpress for a personal website, and would recommend it if you're needing additional functionality that a wiki may not offer.

Ya it's pretty cool. It's awesome that it auto commits to a Git repo.

@tim_g I've been wanting to set up a Wordpress site for myself. A person could read for days and still not know what they want or how to get started. There are so many options and themes.

                          No doubt.. choice overload!!!!

I also use Wordpress for a personal website, and would recommend it if you're needing additional functionality that a wiki may not offer.

ok, damnit. now I really need to set this up.

Ya it's pretty cool. It's awesome that it auto commits to a Git repo.

Yeah, we have been using it a little bit. It is what we are replacing Sharepoint with.

Easy to setup? What OS are you using?

I actually did it on Ubuntu 16.04 just because it's what their documentation claimed they had tested it with. Very straight forward installation process, although I didn't do the git setup nor add any web servers or reverse proxy to it since it will be internal only. I plan to go back and add the git repo here before long though.

Not my first choice, but it is on CentOS 7 shared with some other workloads.

Why not just run it in a container then? I have to run it on CentOS because of political reasons but I had to compile a newer version of Git to be able to use it.

There are easier ways to upgrade GIT on CentOS to fix that.

I guess I shouldn’t say had to. It was just the quickest thing vs searching for a repo I could trust. But I’d just run it in an LXC container if I had the choice.

I am currently testing one using http://alliance.themerex.net/splash/

Really easy to edit with a visual editor and has multiple dashboard themes. Along with that I will be testing azure AD authentication and may be try gamification plugins.

We talked about it the other week. We’re you able to take notes for a guide? I might install another instance today from scratch so I can document it.
