What's happening to Spicework?

I just wanted to comment a thread regarding XenServer 7.3 and some removed features, telling we are trying to gather people around the idea to build it from the sources (see https://xen-orchestra.com/forum/topic/562/xenserver-7-3-and-now-what-s-next )
My first post was removed because I can't post for free « as a vendor » (WAT? just talking about XenServer). But I re-posted without any links, just telling there is some initiative to do so.
… And my post was removed, because I was telling in this last post that "well my previous post was removed".
And the moderator told be, basically:
As an XO Sales Engineer, unfortunately you will not be able to engage with SpiceHeads in the community, as we are only free for those working IT positions at their company.
Seriously? "XO Sales Engineer", LOL. Did you experience that kind of issues with them? Is it new?

If you are an XO sales engineer, then you have to pay them to talk about your product there. If you're not, then you have now felt the sting of their overzealous mods... frequently discussed around here. I've got no love for spiceworks, especially their mods (and especially one mod who I'm pretty sure literally gets off from nuking posts).

@olivier this is just spiceworks trying to force you to pay them to be a green member essentially it's how the business tries to remain in business actually it's a marketing Community for technology and nothing else simply post your topics here on mangolassi and we can cross-post over there and say hey guys have you heard about this new project

- And I wasn't talking about XO in my post!
I understand the business model somehow, but it's really distorted by those mods

Yup, that's how it works. MangoLassi was originally started because they had planned to start charging almost anyone in IT to post as well. Anyone who consults on the side or works for an MSP or provides IT to an outside company was going to be charged $15K a year just to post answers with no sales association at all. So... welcome to MangoLassi!

I won't come back there, obviously.Remember that lots of their mods work for your competition, or don't like products that they don't support getting attention. So you have lots of people with financial or emotional incentive to shut you down that "own" the community there.

I won't come back there, obviously.Important to note that SW is designed to promoted closed source projects. Things that are free aren't banned, but are heavily skewed against by not providing an open forum. Seeing that happen from charging vendors to participate was a key driver why ML has policies against that to make sure that all vendors get an equal, open voice. SW makes their money by making rich vendors look more prominent than they are and selling that as a service to them. There is no money to be made from you, so they have a huge business incentive to make sure that you are not posting. Their vendor sponsors have a strong interest in making sure that the free things that you want to provide don't get made.
Remember, it's not just about you not making money, but free products take money away for their mods and sponsors.

I think they assumed the word "community" means "sheeps that you can drive toward a sales funnel"

For a while it was and in some ways it still is.

I know some people that are parts of companies and yet still can post... strange that it doesn't goes both ways...
