Kids are playing video games in the living room and I'm hanging out with them.

Cleanup the backyard, organized the garage, mount pictures and other items on walls, cleanup basement, vacuum water on basement, kids on a parade. I am done with chores around the house 🙂

So far luck hasn't been with me, but I remain confident. Moaning and complaining won't produce results. 😄

I think that she might side with the empire again, too. Argh.

Two active unRAID threads going on with different people posting on SW. What the actual F. How does anyone, ever, in any IT community ever even mention unRAID?

One, at least, is technical. The other, I suspect, is a shill trying to promote the platform.

This sounds like RAID 5 with parity on a single disk waiting to fail rather than spread throughout the disks.

Correct, which is just another way to say RAID 4.

I thought that we had established that UnRAID is really RAID4 already. You're correct, it's just that you've just described RAID4.

Yup, the thing that made RAID 5 special was that it was RAID 4 without the dedicated disk problem.

RAID 4 was the first Parity RAID level to be good enough to be useful at all. RAID 2 & 3 were totally garbage.

I had not heard of UnRAID and watching you folks complain about it caused me to go look and that the first thing I noticed :P.

Almost have a Salt State ready to get my laptop from fresh Fed27 install, to fully loaded with everything I use, including Virtualization ready, and all other settings configured.

And MD RAID offers RAID 4, so unRAID didn't need to make a new versio nof it, they could have just used the built in enterprise version of it.
