The bane of train commuters in Japan is a suicide on the line.

How does a company come back from a mistake like that?

I'm actually impressed. When they get enough of the charging stations up and running, it'll even work well for OTR. Realistically, the farthest a driver can get in the 11 hours of driving time is 650 miles in a day (assuming they spend all day in states with a 70mph speed limit or higher.) A half-hour break to get a quick boost charge would be less time that it takes to eat lunch/dinner, and trust me, you don't want to be sitting all day anyway.

So this year my Health insurance plan costs me $818 per month.

Just went through Healthcare.gov to see how screwed I am this year.

The plan on the left is the "same" as my plan this year was.
The plan on the right is the lowest premium cost plan of all 25 plans available to me.

Estimated Tax penalty for not having insurance is $2085.

So assuming a yearly premium of $12,000 for that lowest cost plan, I save $10,000 by not buying insurance.

I'll be speaking with the pediatrician's office on Monday to see what they will change for a routine checkup if we pay cash.

Then for everything else we will use cash at urgent care facilities. Those generally only cost $150 a visit.

Obviously the risk is something like a broken bone.

That's quite a chunk of a salary. I'd rather pay higher taxes in Europe, you get more for your money.
