This stress really isn't work related, but just life related. Somehow, technology has turned into my escape.

People like doing things they are good at. If a guy sucks at golf you won't find him out on the course every Saturday. If he's good at work, he will often bury himself in his work when other parts of his life are difficult.

Music, weight training, rowing, and skydiving. Not necessarily in that order.

I like going to the firing range. When I worked at the prison you could go practice whenever you wanted. So that is what I will do. It is my "alone" time so to speak. I have a little .22 pistol, .22 ammo is cheap, I use it to go plinking.

Plinking? You mean the sound the bullet makes when it bounces off a beer can / glass bottle? lol.

My uncle used to have a little 6 shooter .22. I'd love to get my hands on one again.

Yup. I have metal targets I shoot at now that get knocked down when I hit them.

Target shooting is a great stress reliever. Somes plinking with the .22 will do it, and some days you need the 12 gauge and some clay pigeons.

I love fishing. In fact, when I fish I use as little technology as possible. No fish finder, gps, or even a motor. I just like to get out and relax. Oh and alcohol and kayaking go hand in hand.

I love punching holes in paper as well. I find it satisfying to develop accurate loads for my rifles. Long range accuracy has always amazed me. I am considering getting back in to practical shooting like USPSA, its a blast. No pun intended.

When I worked at the prison I could fire the .357 Magnum Revolvers that were standard issue at the time. Department of Corrections fire .38 Special out of them. I bought the .357 Magnum rounds on occasion to target shoot with. That was cool.

I have always thought Kayaking would be fun/cool to do. Any suggestions for someone that has never done it before?

That is the thing about the range or mowing... you need to wear ear protection ... so you could have 15 people around you, and still be 'alone'

Or a nice old Mosin and some steel plates to slap around.

Getting a rental is a great place to start. I found a place near you that does it for $25 a day! That is the best rate I have seen.

That is a very small investment to see how you would like it.

Music and pretty much anything in the shop. It is a bonus as you HAVE to have music playing while you work.

Never partner with someone that has all new gear. 😉

Lake kayaking is different than white water. There isn't much to lake kayaking. Watch a youtube video for the basics and that's about it. If you roll, you fall out.

White water is different. When you roll falling out doesn't come naturally. You don't have to be able to roll to enjoy it, but getting pummeled by rocks as you lug your boat out isn't much fun. If you can find a class or someone willing to let you play on some flat water to see if you like it, that's a good place to start.

You can also rent what we call a duck. I'm not sure if that is just a local term. It's a personal rubber raft. You can take it down white water and see if you like it. It doesn't lock you in, so if you roll, you don't feel like you're trapped.

Lunch break watching the rain fall... Fall chill, rain - only thing missing was a little fire and being deeper in the forest.

One of my cohorts came in he had his umbrella with him, but you couldn't tell it.
