      This is a new tool that I was not aware of existing previously. DDRescue can help to recover a failed partition or drive. It does a block by block copy and it does not fail just because a sector cannot be read.

      Link includes instructions on using the utility.

        Now stick that in a live CD and that could be cool.

          That would be easy to do. Take any LiveCD and just download that package.

              Interesting tool. I would be surprised to find that it is not already on some common LiveCDs and we just did not realize it.

                You're probably right.

                This tool goes right along side Spinrite for me.
