If you're already a consumer of Amazon's services, you can get a Moto 5 Plus for a pretty reasonable price. It isn't a flagship phone, but it does everything I need it to, and at a price I can afford to replace (if it gets broken). I really like what Moto is doing with their software on the main button on the phone. It is a fingerprint reader like so many others, but if you set it up you can use it as a home button, a la iPhone. If you swipe left it goes back, if you swipe right it opens your app switcher, and if you do a long press it locks your phone. They've also used the gyro scope to give you easy access to things like the flashlight (two chopping motions), camera (twist your wrist while holding the phone), etc.

If it weren't for the fact that Motorola is now owned by Lenovo, that might be a good option. I've confirmed that my Moto G4+ has the same issues/malware/spying going on as the rest of the Lenovo ecosystem. Just don't do it!

        How did you confirm that?

Edit: Not asking to be combative, I want to check my Motos.

Mostly because I'm seeing the same sort of random network breakage that @scottalanmiller saw with the yoga. Apps that just work anywhere else, just don't on a Motorola phone. I haven't actually did any packet sniffing, but that's mostly because I don't know what to look for.

I also get the phone doing just random actions. I'm not doing anything, but something is taking control of the thing.

So far I'm really liking the Samsung Galaxy S8+. However, it froze twice already. Nothign that I done, it was just sitting there, on the locked/always on screen or whatever it's called when it's in standby... I noticed that the clock on it was like 20 minutes behind. The phone was frozen. I had to soft-reset it / reboot the phone to fix it... twice now.

But if I overlook that, it's an excellent phone. Well worth the $88 I paid for it.

That's not unlike my Android experiences in 2012. Back when I used one, they would always crash but look like they were still on. So you'd not notice when calls, emails, or texts came in because the phone looked fine, but messages were not being delivered.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened twice now over a week. I've never had an Android phone do that before, this is my first time seeing this issue.

Win10 Mobile would be sweet on this hardware... it's a shame it won't become more. I can't stand iOS, so I guess I'm stuck with Android.

I have had the S8+ since its release, and have never had it freeze on me. It is a super quick phone.

Yes the hardware is excellent and Android looks great on it. I'm really liking it. I wish it had the 6gb ram the Asus phone comes with among other things, but I haven't yet noticed any performance issues.

May I just got a bad phone which is the root cause of the freezing.

The Note 8 has 6GB of RAM. But it will cost more than $88. Yeah, not sure what the freezing thing could be.

Unfortunately I could only get store credit/gift card... They didn't have the note 8 or I would have gotten that one for like $50 more or whatever.

Come to think of it. I have seen weird behavior with reboots and freezing on other Android phones when there was a bad SD card inserted. Do you even have one in there?

But honestly my expectation was walking out of the store with a replacement battery, and paying $600 for an Asus phone.

So a full refund later and paying $88 for an almost $900 phone... I'm happy so long as this freezing issue is isolated.

Yes actually I do have one in that came from my Windows phone. My Windows phone complained often to scan and look for errors on it. Perhaps it really is kind of bad, even though it seems to function fine otherwise.
