Veeam end point free and list changed files

hi,

just testing veeam free for windows in a VM. I've setup a volume level backup to perform even bare metal restore. Now I've made some testing backups and in between I've installed some stuff, just to see how fast it is, how much does it compress and so...

Now I'm wondering if there is a way to ask veeam endpoint free about what files are changed between 2 backups, because you can do file recovery from volume incremental backups, but it can be tricky to have a proper list of changes between 2 backups...

Do you know if this is supported or not?

@matteo-nunziati What has changed does not matter. you simply restore to a point in time and it will restore things to that point.

yes you are right but some other kind of backup tools also provide a way to get list of changed files - not online volume backup to be fair.
Now Veeam works at block level so I do not think a volume backup can do this (maybe a file backup - never tested) but it would be handy with requests like: "the file was right few days ago, do not remember when I've checked it last time"

I need to iterate until I get the right file from the right date... being possible to have granular restore from volumes is nice. having a changes was nice too if available.

You can restore specific files from specific points. This functionality already exists in the client.

That shows me the OP knows he can do that - but he was hoping for a view that showed that file x changed size by y amount since abc backup to make it easier to find the file, instead of mounting and restoring each walking back in time to find the good version (in the case where the user doesn't know how long ago was the good version).

That shows me the OP knows he can do that - but he was hoping for a view that showed that file x changed size by y amount since abc backup to make it easier to find the file, instead of mounting and restoring each walking back in time to find the good version (in the case where the user doesn't know how long ago was the good version).

When you choose restore an individual file you are presented with this screen.

If the user cannot tell you anything better than "a few days ago" that is not IT's problem.

Every file will be visible when you move to the next steps. Not just the files saved in the last backup. it will make it very obvious when the file was last saved.

@dashrender This would happen with any backup software, you will need to try different versions to get the correct one. I have need to do this with Volume Shadow copies, BackupAssist and Veeam Endpoint backup among others.

not all, other solutions in linux act differently. But as said, they use a different approach that do not offer bare metal restore AND file restore at once.

So ok, you simply can't have this. That's ok. It boils down to what @JaredBusch said "not IT problem".

Unfortunately in my current company this means the IT has a new problem

it makes obvious AFTER your have opened the given backup not before. Here is where the iteration comes from. having a list of changes would reduce the number of iterations. but given the CBT mechanism in veeam I suppose I can't also have a CFT (changed file tracking).
