FreePBX: DIDs and Inbound routes

There's probably some n00b thing I'm missing, but if I create an inbound route which send a dialed DID to a particular extension, is there any reason to add the DID to the "Add Inbound DID" field for an extension?

That is where you put the DID to be determined if it matches for the route to kick in.

It is only an extra and it is not required. I have never used it. I only do it on the routes.

Makes sense. I'll continue using the method of inbound routes.
