Webroot is still my go to choice for third party AV.

You have a preferred vendor to buy Webroot through?

      No, lol.

      Umm yes!! GroveMarketPlace!!!

@scottalanmiller Which of these are you using/recommending? I assume endpoint protection but what about the network and internet-related ones?

I agree with Scott that Webroot really has a great product. It's super light weight on clients too but really effective. They have added several features it seems since the SpiceCorps we had last year where @Nic presented on all the new features.

Is the Internet / File / Mobile stuff like a buffet where you pick the features you want? The web classification and reputation looks helpful. I had heard them talking about adding web filtering but was not sure what that would become. The real-time anti-phishing could be mighty helpful if you have no IPS / IDS.

That is what I am trying to determine. I would like to have something that does web filtering, especially for remote users. Anyone who is using webroot, what products/features are you using?

Also, does anyone know if webroot requires internet access on each system that it is installed on?

If you have no internet, you don't need a 3rd party AV program.

@jaredbusch I don't think that is a thing. No network connection, yes.

Edit - Plus what about USB flash drives? You would have to disable that capability too.

Is anyone using any of these Webroot products?

And The DNS product appears to be in beta but seems interesting. Kinda like OpenDNS.

Haven't tried those, but Webroot Endpoint Protection is the jammy jam. Zero problems, lightweight, great support, blah blah blah....

                  10/10, would buy again.

I signed up for a trial of webroot endpoint protection (business version) after getting quoted by my VAR. Initial cost is cheaper than my Trend renewal. I am going to have to see if there is something that Webroot is missing that I use in Trend that makes it cheaper.

That's how they make their money, much like Gartner, these sites always get paid to produce certain results for their paying customers and if there is a competitor that they just can't make look bad, they drop them off of the list completely. That's how you know which ones are really the best; it's the ones that are missing.

It's harder to see if you've never worked on the vendor side. Every vendor is either stuck paying the Gartner tax or gets stuck getting screwed by the numbers. Even if you never do business with them, they are out there reaching out to you to try to talk you into paying for them to promote you. If you are a vendor, it's all exposed really quickly.

I did end up ditching Trend for Webroot. Overall, I like it much better. It is much lighter-weight and I don't have to run my own server. There are some minor annoyances that I have encountered. After some negotiations, I was able to get each endpoint for a little more than a dollar less than Trend's renewal cost and less than half of their initial endpoint license cost!

Here are the items that I find annoying-

                                        1. File Overrides are not currently able to be applied to a policy (or endpoint) after the fact. Period. It has to be done at the time you create the override. This makes absolutely no sense and can be implemented with extremely minor code tweaks at the UI level. Also, overrides can only be applied to a single policy or globally, but not an endpoint. This means, you must have created a policy for one or more endpoints prior to creating your override If you want to separate policies and have the same overrides, you have to create duplicates, which it does not allow you to do automatically.

                                          1. Deployment- Deployment to endpoints is mostly good. There are several options, which is good. The bad thing is that none of them involves being able to download a custom built msi specifically for the endpoint group. They give you a number that is associated with your endpoint group that you can either use in a command for the exe or msi or use Orca to modify the properties of the msi.

When you use this method, the idea is that the endpoint gets moved to the appropriate group in the interface and have the policy applied. In practice, it is slow and clunky. It seems to be close to a 50/50 chance that it will happen automatically. Once the endpoint completes the initial scan, I found that about half the time, it would show up about 15-20 minutes later in the default group and just stay there until I manually moved it to the group that the msi was coded for. I also tried refreshing the config on the endpoint side and it did not have any effect.

                                            1. I would like the ability for an admin to be able to access the shutdown protection feature without having to login to the web interface and apply a different policy to the endpoint, then refresh the endpoint and shutdown protection.

Several people here said that they hadn't run into any issues installing software when Webroot was running. I have already encountered at least 4. 3 were routine driver/software updates for ThinkPads that would not install while Webroot was running. The 4th was using PDQ Deploy to push Acrobat Standard DC. My main complaint is that I never got alerted to any problems from Webroot. I only knew that the installations were failing and would only succeed when Webroot was shutdown.

There are some mentions of password protection in the interface but not in the documentation, as far as I could find when using the search feature. So I don't know if this would solve my issue, because I don't know what it does.
