It looks like Microsoft finally dropped the Surface RT, quietly. It is the only Surface model that did not receive a firmware update. Microsoft mentioned they were going to drop one of the 3 Windows 8 Versions a few months ago. Everyone expected it was going to be Windows 8 RT, but this pretty much confirms it.

Dropping the Surface makes sense. But dropping RT? That would be surprising. Does that signal the death of the Windows Phone too?

@scottalanmiller I don't think so. MS mentioned they had 3 versions of Windows 8. The versions they mentioned were Windows 8, RT, and mobile. They said one is going to go. See article below

Hmmm. Will they port windows 8 to ARM then or are they giving up already?

Maybe the better question is Will Windows 8 devices just move away from ARM completely?

Its starting to look that way.

Sad. As everyone else is moving toward them.

They gave up on it once, what makes you think they won't again?

New CEO. Have got to tighten up operations and product lines. Wonder what the new world vision looking 5-10 years ahead is for them.

Everyone is convinced that they are going to be an Android shop.

I'm not surprised by this, but it was my understanding so they could allow the Mobile Group to build a unified product for that sector.

You would have thought. Mobile and RT could easily have been one and the same. They are for iOS and Android!

I was reading about the large amount of turnover lately in the desktop area in MS and these things be split was one of them. I hope this means we'll see them get on a better path.
