So this question came up (albeit a bit poorly) in another thread as to who is Hostadillo. Hostadillo has been mentioned once or twice on the community as a passing mention about website hosting. Hostadillo is a LAMP application host, focused primarily on WordPress. The site has not been linked or gone public yet, because it was not ready yet. But there was enough interest that some people had some concerns about who was involved with Hostadillo.

I had thought that it was obvious that I was involved in Hostadillo as I built the hosting publicly here on ML in a LAMP engineering thread that even had Hostadillo's name in things like certificate files. There was never an attempt to disassociate me from Hostadillo. Hostadillo is my own project done via the DCH group in Texas which it is very public that I am involved with (we even talked about this last night at MangoCon and I'm on the speaking list for tomorrow as a DCH rep - don't think that I hid my involvement there.) There has been some thought that @dominica (that everyone knows is my wife) is also involved with Hostadillo but she is not any further than being Hostadillo's web designer as that is what she does, designs websites.

Hostadillo came about when, as NTG's web app maintainer, I did a search for a web hosting product that really met NTG's needs (which are extensive as we do hosting work for clients, as well as internal work.) We have an existing web host that we still use primarily while we test Hostadillo for NTG use. It made sense for me to go down this path with my own non-NTG project because Dominica does web design and regularly needs access to a quality web host and none that I tested were found to be as good of a fit.

So I hope that that clarifies that I run Hostadillo as my own project in conjunction with DCH and that short of major independent announcement, has been relatively public since the project has not yet done a public announcement yet. But having it brought up in another thread today suddenly brought it to many peoples' attentions before it was really ready to announce so now it needs to be pointed out publicly that I'm involved there so that nothing is being hidden.

That being said... Hostadillo is the awesome choice for dedicated WordPress hosting. Hosting starts at just $10/mo and comes with full management. It's a good time to go public and let people know that we are ready to be hosting your websites! Check us out.

Scott and I were talking about WordPress hosting about a week ago. He mentioned Hostadillo to me for the second time during that talk. I don't recall the reason for the mentioning the week or two before, (was was it even longer ago), but I asked him - are you Hostadillo - and he reminded me that we did have the conversation in the past, and yes, he is Hostadillo.

I think this is important for transparency that it's his company when he's talking about it. Just like any vendor should be posting that they work for/own a company when making recommendations for those companies.

I would like to add that during a recent website outage that I was having, Scott and other members of the thread were helping me out. Scott then asked some questions that lead him to mentioning Hostadillo. I asked if it was his company and he did say that it is his company. Scott was very helpful in working to get my site transferred to his hosting services. I don't see any issue or lack of transparency on SAM's end.

I am about to sign up for an Envato site, but would like to get setup on Hostadillo instead if that is an option.

And my point in case being, how many people already would have signed up if @scottalanmiller had thrown his name behind it. So I don't see a scandall. Just cautiously moving forward.

But I also could understand why he would delay until he was sure everything was going to work right. If Hostadillo sucked, then he would have his name tied to it. Reasonable in a beta phase to not put it out there.

The only point of contention I see is that Scott used to recommend a company that I believe he had no involvement with at all - ASO, Vultr, etc (though maybe he owns stock in them, works for them, not sure - but I assume not).

Now, Scott is recommending a vendor that he does own. Does that mean it's bad, of course not, but the question is, will Scott ever recommend other solutions, assuming they are better than his?

I do see what you are saying. If I had went to the site and it was actively accepting sign-ups it would be a little more scandalous and maybe an apology would be in order.

However, I have been involved in a startup that flat lined before it could produce any results went down in a blaze of glory, and later I wish I had kept my name out of it. Even though it was originally my bright idea.

So I see it as a testing of the waters, proceeding with caution, as opposed to the type of fake accounts and marketing that sometimes often emerges in forums.

                  That would be awesome. Definitely.

If you are an MSP and you suck are you going to recommend someone else? Not trying to be a dick but I know of no company ever that would tell you they suck and recommend another company.

What about a Hostadillo vs Dreamhost?

I paid Dreamhost a year up-front, but after that, I may consider Hostadillo if the pricing is better, and there are only benefits to moving and no disadvantages over Dreamhost.

@dashrender There was another part to that which was a quote of Scott's post

I do know Scott was up front when I asked if it was his hosting site. He said that he wasn't able to find something that provided what he was looking for so he went out and made his own.

Good time for me to declare I am affiliated with...

Big Bear's VoIP and Tackle Supply Company

                              😉

Actually maybe I will go on record as having no affiliation with Big Bears VoIP and tackle. The exposure from the scandal could be well worth it...

The two are a bit different. So a key question would be what kind of hosting do you need. Hostadillo is a more "full management" site by site platform. Dreamhost I think is more of a "pay for capacity do it yourself" host.

I'd also like to point out that the recent flappery regarding this mob would say otherwise.
