If you send a picture to a phone number which is not a smart phone, will you get a notification that the picture is not delivered?

We use a texting service to communicate with our client. Problem is that we do not get notification when they send pictures, nor they get notification that the pictures were not sent. Is there such notifications to begin with?

What I am trying to ask is... do smartphone get alerts if you send MMS/picture to a non-supported phone number? I tried sending it to my landline, and I did not receive any notification that the picture did not go through. Anyone still got an old relic they can test for me? My manager argue that if the picture did not go through the sender will get a notification.

I doubt you would get an alert because the service only knows that it was delivered, not if the device can show it or not.

Let me rephrase my question.... is SMS/MMS similar to postal mail? Basically, you only know when you send the mail... but whether the mail got lost or not you never know... or is there any mechanism behind SMS/MMS that act similar to confirmation page for faxes?

Don't believe that there is anything like that.

Doesn't it depend on the phone/network/etc?

Sometimes even with the iPhone i get a notification of certain things to certain people it didn't go through.

Regardless, if you are looking for some sort of reliable tracking, SMS is not the way to go.

I could be wrong here. But I feel like this is true.

@stess yes, there is a way to know. GSM networks support SMS/MMS delivery reports. However, it has to be supported by operator (which usually is) and it has to be enabled on phone itself (by default it isn't).
Look at http://ccm.net/faq/34184-android-enable-sms-and-mms-delivery-report how to enable it on Android device.

I don't use MMS anymore, but I remember (speaking for my operator) that if recepient did not have MMS enabled service or phone, he would get SMS with URL where MMS could be seen via browser.

@stess There is no way to know if it was delivered or not, your phone will not send if it is an iphone and the other person has blocked you.

Not true, as the phone has no way to know this information with MMS. That is a feature of private services like iMessage.

Right, I have no idea the actual underworkings, but I would guess that the delivery does in fact happen and the block just prevents showing the user the message

@JaredBusch If it is and Imessage that is the key part. It would be an Iphone to Iphone feature not the rest of the mobiles...

                                Then it is not MMS/SMS.

Which means completely unrelated as this is about MMS.
