Finally! My test can make and receive calls using PJSIP trunks and Twilio!

Now we can SIP call each other, too.

In a setup like that are SIP calls counted against minutes like a regular phone call? (Just curious, as I have no idea how that works).

If the traffic travels over the trunk, I'd imagine so.

      It doesn't. It's direct.

So if I'm [email protected] call [email protected], it would be like the two servers calling one another and bypassing VOIP.ms ?

Yup. Same as email. It's a fully decentralized system.

Without a phone number, there is no way to route over the PSTN.

I got it now. I'm considering building my own FreePBX install to play with.

While the FreePBX guide doesn't talk about PJSIP, the Asterisk guide does. Of course, I'm not about to go messing with the actual .conf files, but it's nice to see that it's not a fluke that PJSIP works.

If you build on Vultr, you can call most of us without even hitting another network!

What are you opening to allow this, because by default nothing should come in on 5060 without authentication.

Just back from the total failure Spicecorps where they don't even let you in the door.

There is nothing special here. Just fill in the blanks and it should connect. Look at my guide.

Currently, PJSIP is not that different from SIP. Mostly it is server side handling and additional features on top of SIP.

Phones don't talk PJSIP, but all my extensions are setup PISIP.

VoIP.ms does not talk PJSIP, but my trunks are still setup that way. Just plug in the creds.

yeah, they have the doors blocked. You have to wait in a really long line (40-50 people, goes out the door) to sign a waiver to get in eventually. You can only get in if part of a tour. I asked about Spicecorps and they said they'd not heard of it. Total chaos, and totally overbooked. Sounds like if you got there early enough you could get in, but getting there 25 minutes in, it was closed off to entrance.

There were no signs or anything, and people said they'd not heard of the event. So I assumed it had been cancelled and I just hadn't seen the update. It looked like the facility was totally booked for the big event that they had going on, so it made sense that the SC wasn't there. I hung about uncomfortably long trying to figure out an option to get in, but it seemed pretty obvious that I didn't belong, so I gave up.

The Dallas Makerspace has been bad about it before. Paul has reserved the room before and people were confused. Last two times we have done it there, the doors were locked, someone had to let you in and questioned you 10 times. The first time we went was cool getting the tour, but not really my favorite venue.

Wow, so this is the norm for this space? If it was a known problem why didn't someone address it either by not using the space or by coming up with information that we need if we knew we'd be turned away? 😞

It's a tour without the people you are there to see as well. Who wants to see an artists' workspace for no reason? Not even kind of interesting. "Oh look, paint." Who cares?

The Makerspace is much more than "paint" for painting class.
Might want to look up what the dallas makerspace has online and educate yourself.

I did, it sounded like a painting shop. It's an artist workspace. that's how I knew, from going to their website before going down there.
