Dell T20 with Intel Intel Rapid Storage Controller RAID is FakeRAID

Good thread that required some digging. But as we know, Intel is something to be avoided in the storage world and this device is no exception. The lack of serious hardware options actually makes this not generally classifiable as a server. This is a hobby device to be avoided. In case anyone needs to research this again, I'm putting it here for definitive reference.
It took a bit of research but the Intel Rapid Storage Controller 12.0 is FakeRAID.
So the summary of the Dell T20 is...
- Includes Intel FakeRAID so not viable for any production use.
- Does not qualify as even an entry level server.

I didn't realize people still bought tower "servers"

And very old ones, too.

There are some tower servers which really quakify as great imho. Noticeably from Dell

Any that I've seen that are any good are convertibles (tower OR rack.)

Yes, I dealt with another question of the poster were the Backups were completing but he was worried about a bad block on a nonexistent device. Tried helping but it was to not avail. I also knew it was software raid by the model and the Intel Array Image

@scottalanmiller the T330 and T430 series are good and you can adapt them to a Rack if needed be. The last Tower servers I ordered were the T410 and T310 series. All the rest are Rack.

My last tower was an insider deal for IBM employees in 2000.

Because I worked at IBM.

LOL, we work with SMB which do not have a rack at all so that was the reason and still is for some that prefer a server in house. Otherwise is cloud hosting.

Even rackmounts for us... when we didn't have a real rack we still used rack mounts on baker's racks or wall mounted. Even at home.

Rack servers really do work well almost anywhere. Just two pegs on a wall and they will hang nicely, out of the way.

Yeah, I know that. it just looks so weird

no floor space though, which is great.

Ya we have 20 z440s that are racked. But those are higher end workstations.
