Ceramic Tile must be a FL thing. You rarely see wood, most floors are ceramic tile or carpet if people are cheap.
Same in all of LATAM.

INstead of designing plans from scratch why not just google "3 bedroom split house plan" there are so many to choose from. I like this one for a 3 bedroom house.
In other words, you are not a damned snowflake. You are not special. You are also not an architect.
And finally, you are not independently wealthy.
Simply put, you will not be designing your own house.

Something to consider though is adding an external basement access with walkin (not walk down) entrance if possible.
Very useful for getting things like washer and dryers, furnance, water heaters etc into the house without having to carry it all from upstairs.
Laura is against having that kind of entrance but if we did it right I think it would be beneficial

Who puts there washer and dryer in the basement? That's a terrible place for it.

Insulated concrete forms. They can easily add r16 to your basement wall. Really cool going into the basement and the walls are warm even when there is no heat on.
Reading about it now. Sounds fantastic. I'm wondering what the cost increase is going to be for each thing listed here
Not as much as you'd think. Insulated concrete forms are becoming a new standard for housing because they are so energy efficient, especially if you are doing a finished basement. I would recommend that you do in-concrete radiant floor heating as well. It will make all the difference when the time comes to finish that area.

Yep 100% this.
The other thing. Don't run copper water supply lines if you can help it, some areas have it coded that certain type of supplies need to be copper, but if you can do PEX and HeatPEX the entire way, and do a manifold or something similar after the main or tankless hot water heater.

I'm putting down on paper what I think I want in a very basic way. I am not an architect and have never owned a home before which is why I'm asking all of your opinions as intelligent home owners.

@coliver fully in agreement. If I ever get the opportunity to build, boiler radiant heat and indirect tank, closed cell spray foam, insualted concrete forms all are in the plans

You know what? All of this is nice and all. You know, where to put the washer and dryer, where to put the stairs, how are you going to do the foundation, etc, etc, etc.
However, you're missing one very critical piece of real estate here. Where are you going to put your server room for your home lab?

There will be a huge fully furnished basement. The server room will be there, decked to the teeth with a conduit directly to it.

Is it even cost effective to have a lab anymore with $2.50 instances from Vultr? I could understand having a fairly beefy server with xen or esxi for spinning up VMs on the fly at your house.
I've got a somewhat powerful desktop running VMware workstation pro. It's not ideal for performance or as means for production servers like esxi, but it's damn easy to manage. Test VMs require minimal resources anyway and usually have minimal use. I've had no issues running 7 or 8 VMs at once. I mean go with a decent Dell or hp server and run xen or esxi if you want something mirroring what you'd see in production.

Don't forget to implement a serious backup system in your lab as well, you want to learn how disaster recovery will work in your various environments.
