The latest "We're having some performance issues" notice. I don't know what the cause was, other than I stopped getting their emails for a few days. Wasn't really put out over it.

Right. To me this sounds like a competitor to OpenDNS' Umbrella solution, which is now Cisco Umbrella. That was something like $45/user/year for one of my clients when I quoted it before Cisco bought them.
This is listed at $3/user/month so that matches out at $36/user/year.

wow - not horrible eh? We seem to be getting nickled and dimed to death these days. Are we getting more services? Maybe - do we need them? possibly, but probably not.
A person used to pay roughly $100 per computer for home access to MS Office for the life of the computer, now people pay $60-$100/yr (granted it can cover 1-5 computers).
5 years ago I only had 3-4 subscriptions.. now I have more like 20.

I know that - that's why I mentioned the additional services, then then added - do we really need them?
Just like often times bundles don't save us money... They only appear that way because they give us that much more crap that we don't really want or will use.
Example, I wanted Disney XD, but that required buying a whole extra tier, not a single channel of which I will EVER watch... but hey it's a bundle, so much value.. uh NO..
