Looking for SharePoint Developer

I MAY have a short term project for a potential client. They need to do at least a consult with a SharePoint Developer person (that is what they are requesting). However I believe they just need someone that knows SharePoint, all of it's in's and outs and can help them set it up.
They are just starting to move all file shares to SharePoint and are having issue with structure listing by location and department, the best way to structure and moving files. It is bare bones at this point and needs to be built up.

Getting them on a call with a SharePoint Developer will be a disaster then. A developer won't necessarily know anything that they want to know and will cost them a lot to hire the wrong kind of person. You should refuse a further conversation until a technical person determines what they want. Unless you are going to get paid to be a staffing agency, the client should never have a say in the "kind" of resource that is brought in because they will have a say in if they feel the meeting was successful. And allowing them to sabotage it is just going to throw the whole thing under the bus.

The very fact that they need to bring someone in means that they don't have the ability to determine what their needs are.

I'm assuming they are an Office365 customer? Because for the most part Sharepoint doesn't make a lot of sense for just file shares when you have NextCloud, SeaFile, and Pydio available to do the same thing for basically free.

Not surprising. SharePoint on Office365 is slightly different then the one locally hosted (from my limited experience) It can be a powerful tool if they are building an app to facilitate or replace file sharing. But if they just want to use it for a glorified WebDav repository then there are other tools that would work better.
Any reason OneDrive for Business wouldn't work for them? Or will there be ownership issues if they go through that process?

Owner Ship issues is what they seem to think. Like I said they just really need someone that really knows SharePoint well to help them get it setup. A Developer is what they asked for but....

Good luck. I'll post this to a person I know who has some Sharepoint experience. Don't know enough about it personally to do what they want.

Yes, and it is what YOU asked for in turn, knowing that if you deliver that, it will be a big failure. That's my point. If you know that they asked for the wrong thing, you have to manage that. Repeating bad information will just lead to getting the wrong resource.
