@scottalanmiller same here - the Echo is great. I use it for playing music, adding stuff to the shopping list, and asking stupid jokes 🙂

I think a good question is what are you looking to use it for? I lOVE my Echo as a matter of fact I have 2 of them.

I know with the Echo and the Dot, you can control a Fire Stick, which a friend of mine might be giving me in the near future. So that is a big plus. However, the Home works with the Chromecast, which I LOVE, having used before. I am looking for something to play Spotify when I want it to, I want voice-controls (obviously both have that), and simplicity. If the Echo/Dot can interface with my Google stuff, then the Echo is the clear winner.

Also, I do have Prime, and shop a massive amount on Amazon, so there is that too.

I like the idea of ordering completely via voice but also are hesitant...

Watching this and it's a good side-by-side comparison. I'm starting to like the Home more at this rate.

So after some research and watching the video, the Home is still lacking in terms of smart-home equipment, like thermostats, etc, in that it doesn't have the range of selection that it's compatible with versus the Echo. It also doesn't appear to integrate completely with all Google functions yet, but it's coming. Decisions, decisions...

Considering the complete and utter lack of security in almost anything that actually allows remote control (i.e. JB and his cameras that demand UPNP open ports for the world - thank you NO) I currently refuse to use any of that stuff.

That said, I do have an Amazon Echo - after hearing Scott say how cool they are - and now I just sit back and wonder why. Sure I have it play Amazon music on it's crappy speaker (ok a dot could fix that) 1 time a month on average, I ask it the weather about 2 times a month on average... Otherwise I'm constantly annoyed, almost nightly by it saying "I'm sorry Dave I didn't understand the question I heard" while watching a show where no one said Alexia.

I guess my wife and I have asked it a question here or there, but it fails to know 9 out of 10 times and we fall back to google to get the answer.

That is the other thing I do like about the Google Home vs the Amazon equipment. Google seems to be much better at answering general questions, and you can ask it follow-up questions, something the Amazon Echo/Dot is lacking. Also, even if Google hasn't fully integrated all their services with it yet, I have zero doubts they will in the future. I'm leaning more towards the Home at this point, tbh.
