No headphone jack makes it even shittier than the rest of Crapple's products.

That's a pretty significant loss of functionality. I get that they want to seal it for water proofing, but.... ugh.

I agree. They should take a look at what Samsung is doing. Samsung has 3 models (Galaxy S, Note, and Active). The Galaxy S and Active use the same hardware, but the Active is waterproof, shockproof, etc. It obviously weighs more and isn't as pretty, but as much time as I spend on the water it is a must have. For technology buffs that need ruggedness, it is a dream come true since it has the latest hardware.

New watch looks nice I didn't pay that close of attention to that. New Phones are 7 and 7+

Is the much ado about no headphone jack true?

        Does it matter honestly?

Why wouldn't people use a bluetooth headset?

Yeah, but what about all the hobby businesses that only process credit cards with the mobile payment things that plug into a headphone jack? They're all going to be forced to pay fees to Apple now instead of the super cheap ones in place today.

Why wouldn't Square design a unit that can connect over BlueTooth?

        I think they do.

Square switched a while ago to a new unit in order to get the ApplePay/AndroidPay crowd. They do not promote the use of the analog jack anymore.

OH that's good. So only legacy devices affected.

Ya it happened with the card chip change. They would cover your costs if someone's info was stolen from swiping until they shipped it to you.

I signed up to get one and then never went through with it. It was only $49, but I never did enough with a CC to bother with it.

Seems I don't come to this thread often enough.. jeeze.. just skipped 14 days worth of posts. I may go back and read.

Starting to get ready for MangoCon - Getting my route plans in order for travel on Sunday and the return. I'm also wondering if I can get a replacement Bluetooth keyboard from Amazon in time. I'm returning the RII 12+ I have as it's not BT, just 2.5Ghz and not of the size I can type on very well.

Fought with a students Lenovo laptop (with Windows = 😠 )but have given up. It seems the Intel AC WiFi card is flaky.
Watching the wireless adapter in Task Manager I see extended periods of activity and the periods of 0% activity. Ethernet is fine.

Explaining to someone how to do their job, which in no way is related to IT.

"Well which one does our US counterpart do?" Depends on how the job is setup. But honestly I can't tell you how to do the job, we have SOPs for a reason

Looking for a small (wireless or wifi) device to replace the door and window sensors on an alarm system. Can't find any system that will perform the announcements needed when a door is opened.

How old is the machine? Lenovo laptops from 3-2 years ago had malware called SuperFish. Supposedly Lenovo released a new NIC driver that didn't include it, but since I physically ripped the old card out of my machine and replaced it with a non keyed Lenovo POS I haven't had that issue.

A Pi could easily do that. Door sensors are about the simplest type of sensor to work with, and playing sounds is quite simple as well. (say, festival, spd-say, or espeak)

Well, a Pi would be the cross interface - yes. But I can't see having a Pi at each door or window. I believe the better solution is the ESP8266 board. But I'm still researching on that.

                                            the project has:

                                            • 5 doors
                                            • 20 Windows
                                            • Glass break option(?)
                                            • Motion option(?)

Even if you used the Pi0 it would be a bit costly... Biggest problem is the installation on some windows. there are 5 sets of either two or three windows,.. Like to not have to tear up the house installing these.
