ReactOS might be the replacement you've been looking for. Classic looking enough to make you feel like you're playing Minecraft.

Functional enough for those special users. It's a Windows Clone built on open source software, but it's not Linux. At least there are no Linux Applications that will run on it.

ReactOS is a full OS on its own. I've been following the project since 2000 when it was an NT4 clone. It is not based on any other operating system, it is its own. It is the only full attempt to make a full Windows clone using no Microsoft code. It is not an emulation layer, it is a full OS.

I've been following it off and on for a few years. Has it reached a point where it can be a daily driver? Guess It's time to go download it again.

I haven't heard that it is anywhere close.

So, if MS starts giving away Windows 10 free, will that kill this project?

Is there a Mac OS clone project out there? not that I want use it, just asking.

Doubtful, this project has no Windows code at all. Nothing from Microsoft.

The goal with this is to have something as identical as possible to Windows, without having to be Windows.

No, why would it even affect them?
