He's the Internet's own monster, a ghoul who lurks in its darkest corners and, like the Web itself, has mutated time and again to suit the dreams and desires of his devotees.
He is Slenderman, a menacing, faceless specter in a dark suit -- sometimes portrayed with octopus-like tentacles -- known to haunt children and those who seek to expose him. He was born in 2009 in an online forum for people who enjoy creating fake supernatural images.

Merkins? (For those not familiar with the term, be careful searching for it, as it may contain NSFW results.)

i started this thread over at the "other" site since this happened only about 15 minutes from my house

            http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/508297-so-this-happened-yesterday-in-the-county-next-to-me-not-sure-what-to-think?page=2#entry-3388056

this is very messed up and those 12 year olds have some serious mental issues that need to be looked at.
very disturbing that this can happen and many questions have been raised in terms of style of parenting, where were the parents and so on. I'm not trying to delrail this thread by anymeans it really just makes me think of when i want to start a family what kind of world will i be bringing the kid up in. One where I have to watch their every move, (obviously being in IT i will have content filters, but that only goes so far)

It's not the guns, the games or the tv shows - it's the mental health. One of the girls is quoted at saying she had no remorse, which means she's probably a sociopath. Better detection and treatment is the answer. Take away all the "reasons" and the weapons and they'll just get inspiration from anywhere and use a brick.

That makes me think about Mary Bell...
