Anyone here had to troubleshoot syncing problems between iPhones and Exchange before? Any hints or tips?

Crawling through logs is something I'm pretty green at - event logs for Windows are mostly old hat, but Exchange, more or less a total mystery.

      Here's the issue:

We have iPhones that just won't stay sync'ed with Exchange, exclusively with the calendar, not email or contacts. In the past it's we've discovered a know problem where iPhones will often not update themselves when an appointment/meeting is changed in Exchange. To solve this, we have instructed our staff that they must delete the old calendar entry and create it new in the new time/date slot.

Today I have reported that a user deleted an item from a calendar (and the audit logs show the softdelete) but the user claims it's still on their phone.

I'm going to use Google-Fu to find the logs I need to look at to see when this change was pushed to the phone (assuming they still exist), but assuming there are no errors there - are there logs on the phone that can be viewed for errors?

In the past whenever we've run into a sync issue, the main solution we've found is to remove exchange from the iPhone, wait 5 mins, then re-add Exchange to the iPhone. After the sync pulls all the data down, things seem to be good for a while, but eventually it always falls out of sync again. Normally the good times last for approximately 1 year.

Are these calendar invites from other Exchange people or outside your organization?

FYI: I haven't experienced this issue so just trying to figure out what could be causing it for you.

There are the occasional invites from inside and out, but 99% of the calendar manipulation is done by delegates (nearly everyone on staff is a delegate for the Provider's calendars). The changes are made directly to the calendar itself, not through invites.

I have had the exact same issue and found the same solution in deleting and setting up the account again. No idea.

I've rarely seen issues with Exchange and iPhones, but when they do occur, just remove the account and re-add it.

The problems often go away and don't show back up.

Add another one here to the camp.

We had a lot of strange problems when we use MDameon''s Activesync product, but when some of the users switched to Exchange all of the problems went away.

It's not an exchange problem from what I've seen (here anyway). It doesn't apply across the board just to a device here and there.

iPhone falls over about as often as Outlook does.

I've needed to rebuild Outlook profiles & iPhone Exchange accounts numerous times, with either you are using a local database which contains your emails/calendars/contacts. Sadly there is no way to solve this.

So it's not Exchange being wrong. It's just how these apps work. iPhones seem to be more miss than hit with issues, whether it's having to forget a wifi network and re-enter credentials or some other bit of fun.

My move to O365 has been flawless.

                              I've actually been amazed.

How did the migration go? I've heard of issues occurring but haven't done it myself yet

Did a hard reset on the phone and still have the red outlined circle with a red i in the middle, this time with the phone only having a local calendar - no iCloud account activated, etc.

                                  0_1461765853720_384.PNG

Then I add Exchange, which disables the local phone calendar, and I still have a red i.

                                  0_1461765754077_IMG_0001.PNG

WTF? There seems to be no real information about this on the interwebs.

Sorry sir, that is not true. For many years there was no red i, you just tapped on the one you wanted to change (still do) and you get a new screen with the options.

JB posted a private picture where he has the red i on some things and not others...

@Dashrender For many years there was a blue one, if you just tap on the name of the calendar from the screen you were on it turns the calender view off.
