Just had someone here try to tell me that when you go into a directory, your secondary groups aren't taken into account. You have to change your primary group to whatever the gid is of the directory.

So I demonstrated for him that secondary groups are definitely used for permissions and all he said was "I don't think that's how it works."

      ....................

I thought primary group was a legacy pre-nt thing?

Sorry this is on Linux. Forgot to mention that

Oh. I've only ever heard it on Windows. That's why I defaulted to that.

Ha shows how much I know about Windows. I didn't even know they had primary and secondary groups.

They did for a short period of time before NT. After NT I don't think groups have mattered except in the no-before-yes instances.

Before NT? What WAS there before NT?

I'm probably mistaken. Didn't they have a workgroup system in the DOS era that relied on primary groups?

You mean 3.11 Windows for Workgroups? Maybe, can't really recall how the security worked (or if there was any.) Did WFW even predate NT, though? They were concurrent, not sure which made it out first.

That's fair. It was a point made in undergrad by some unreliable professors. I looked into it back then and determined it was no longer valid.

Seems unlikely, we made it pretty big. I've not seen that error in quite a while and I upload some big stuff from time to time.

I always have to resize pics taken w my phone to upload them here. Or maybe it just does that when posting from mobile.

I will have to look into that. That was an issue long ago, but I thought that we got it fixed. I've not seen it in a while, even from my phone. but the iPhone 5S doesn't have the biggest camera, either.

My camera pics are ~4.2mb, a quick crop gets them under the size limit. I haven't seen this happen from a desktop yet.

is this site a password harvesting system?

It could be, but that is why I never use my passwords on sites I don't fully trust.
