        R720xd, 24GB of RAM - $300

Devices from eBay don't carry warranties, do they?

With xByte, you still get devices with warranties.

Depends on the seller. SaveMyServer does.

This might actually be a good solution for my in-home test environment. Hm.

          Check out eBay too.

I would be very careful with eBay or Craiglist items. Depending on the needs (personal or business), eBay may not be the right fit.
If if this for exam lab or personal media server, then go for it.
If this is for business, invest more for an ease of mind. If it is not your money$$$, and your job security is not on the line, then go with more decent option.

Be careful, yes. Run it for a week out of production.

I always have a backup host, so I can fire up my replica's if needed.

Great option for a home environment or lab. But for business needs. Nope gonna stick with Xbyte. You can get a 3 year Dell Service warranty (4 hour or next day) for onsite service. That makes me sleep better at night

I sleep better at night knowing that if I have a hardware failure I can be backup and running within 15 minutes.

If you only have 1 server, then a warranty doesn't help much (until they can fix it)

This is where your disaster recovery plan takes effect though. Then you have dell service warranty's for the actual repair process.

Right one nothing has nothing to do with the other.

If you have a dead server with no way to get it repaired quickly doesn't matter if you have an amazing DR plan you still have a dead or broken server.

Nothing makes me jealous of America like good cheap used stuff.

                            Cars, Servers, you name it.
