Funny my boss wants the exact opposite. she does not want the charms bar to open on the edge that is shared by the two monitors.

I don't want them to open anywhere. I loathe the charm bars. Worst idea ever.

I really find the charm bar useful. I think I use it much more often than I use the Start button or windows key. The search feature is invaluable to quickly access applications

Problem is, it pops up while doing other things and completely halts getting any work done. This discussion is making me really want to go back to Linux. Windows 8, even 8.1, is still just ridiculously poor.

Windows 8/8.1 is like a significant other that is ugly but also has a great personality. You're shocked/appalled at first, but it grows on you.

Having an option to disable the left screen's charms window would be a nice touch nonetheless.

I've been using Windows 8 and then 8.1 for a while now and let me assure you, it hasn't grown on me 🙂

I agree with both statements. I train my customers to help them get over the "shock" of the system and all have moved forward with no complaints. A little bit more mods would be nice like the choosing where or if the charms bar was available via the mouse movement. I found a "charms" script that I used to put on my customers W8 taskbar, and they would click to access the charms bar.

This happened again today. Except it was my primary monitor. Once again a reboot fixed this.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I really don't use the charms, so even if it was happening, I wouldn't notice.

Yeah. Few things do I want disabled more than things that pop up and grab the mouse over other controls that I was actively trying to click on. Charms, I think, are the worst part of the Windows 8 experience, far worse than the Start Screen and other weirdness.

It happened again today. It seems to be related to the Mail App.

Windows Mail App and its me using it. I use it 100 times a day, maybe more. This is happened to me 3 times and I think it was related to the mail app each time. I tried to kill it in task manager, but the didnt fix the problem. The mail app works fine, I just lose the ability to click the minimize or red X as well as losing the Charm Bar.

Its not really a big issue, I am just using this thread to document it. Hopefully it helps someone one day.

It happened again today. I can confirm that it is caused by the Mail App. It seems to be related to moving the app into split screen mode. I tried removing the Mail App and reinstalling it. I still needed a reboot to fix the issue.

I think you're the first person I've ever heard from that uses the Mail app.

I am just kidding with you. I actually like the mail client for what it is. I know its no Outlook, but its fine for what I am using it for.

It works really nice for me because I have 3 Windows 8.1 PCs at home and one at work. It automatically syncs my sent and received email between the two and I dont have to have Outlook licenses on all 3 PCs

Not much of Outlook licensing concerns now that Office 365 gives you five licenses per user. And you can use OWA anywhere.
