What Change Management Tools are People Using?

What change management and system automation tools are people using or at least playing with? Things like Chef, Puppet, Salt, cfEngine, etc.?

In this arena? I wouldn't expect many at all to be used do the the typical cheapness of SMBs.

The cost of the software is only part of the cost. There is still time to learn the software and how to manage it. In single man shops that can be difficult unless the one man IT shop decides to spend a lot of their personal time learning this to bring back to the office.
I'm trying to deploy 40 new computers in my office now. I want to use MDT for it, but the time it takes to setup MDT (since I don't fully understand it) is 15-30 hours. Between all of the other 'gotta support production' issues that people constantly seem to have, it's really hard to stay focused on a project like this. I am currently building base images and using clonezilla for this project.

This is exactly the reason I do not use any solution yet. I do not have the time to learna system. Yes, I know that if I take the time it will make things bettering the long run, but I need the devices deployed I now. I do not have a week or three to spend learning a system around my normal workload.

It depends on the system. Through the use of test pools, VDI change management's pretty much baked-in. With most virtualized environments, key VMs can be cloned into a test environment.

From what I've seen, none of the players (Chef, Puppy, etc.) attempt to address desktop needs. I'm a little confused by this because it seems like it would be a natural fit but the market seems to be eschewed from the vendor perspective and the use of disparate tools expected from the client perspective.
Cloning VMs works as a starting point. These tools are good for keeping them that way in the future.
