Of you just made my 7yo's day with this. She is so fascinated with space. When we were at Costco grabbing groceries, she seen an Encyclopedia Britannica book on space and really wanted it.

This happened to my friend last year. He burnt around 3 acres before the fire was put out.

well, he was mowing and caused the fire....
then he mowed about 15 ft in front to try to create a gap the fire might not jump... didn't work.

And for those of you who think @Dashrender is joking, I can say he is not. I personally had this happen on. Lawn care team I worked with.

How did the mower cause the fire? Sparks? Bad exhaust? Dangling exhaust pipe?

He was mowing a corn field with a lawn tractor - and previously had removed the heat shield. The old corn stocks got hot and started on fire.

Wrong tool for the job, but like many farmers, just wings it often. lol

yep... it was duh moment... although.. I'm not sure it would have mattered.. the heatshield probably wouldn't stop this problem 100% of the time anyway. The mower was a lawn tractor.. not a garden tracker... not designed for this..

LOL, um yeah. I grew up on a farm and we normally mowed everything with a garden tractor because it was faster.

yep.. right tool for the job...
he bought this lawn tractor for like $600... he' managed to keep it going through 10 busted spindles..
he's proud about wasting his own time fixing the damned thing instead of getting the right tool.

That said, we probably do have less in cash invested than a decent garden tractor. but tons of personal time - which I guess is fine with him.
