I use it very little but have the odd task that I use it for. It's difficult to pop into a one liner so I try to use other tools when possible.

That's a good question... when does chrooting make more sense than containers today?

Storage is one. Lots of people use chroot jails for storage purposes. Containers are heavier than chrooting which has effectively no impact on any resources.

Kind of like how the UK pulled that PR stunt about leaving the EU. All they did was make everyone question if they even wanted them here.

What I don't understand is why people use Mac OSX for development or why WSL would be nice. In both cases I feel like people want Linux but just aren't using it. Why not? If you want Linux, why not work on Linux?

For me personally I have used all 3 platforms and for me, I like the Mac for the Host as it seems to be the most user friendly, everything just works, and I can focus on the task at hand OS. I then run VM's for Windows and Linux on top for whatever I need to get done. I like the hardware, I like the OS, I love the gestures on the mouse pad, and I like the 8hour battery life.

How secure is running a DE in the Dom0 though?

      Are they running it there?

      Ya.

Dom0 is sort of a system domain separate from the default domains and any other domains you create. The desktop manager runs in this domain. Your login credentials reside there. Much like a super domain, Dom0 is more trusted than any other domain.

It provides just two functions: It runs the window manager and the desktop manager.

You can be amazing but your career is over before you have a chance to demonstrate it because all of the managers are the 80% and have no way to know that you are doing well or, more often, do know it and need to crush you to support their own careers.

I've found everywhere I've worked so far that the IT Manager has ever come from the field, they have been managers in different fields e.g. Accounting, and "promoted" into IT. So I found this in one place and got out quick as the "manager" I felt was holding me back and taking advice from a poor MSP over my recommendations.

That's normal for IT directors and CIOs not to be from IT fields/backgrounds. They are usually a little bit technical. But they are business management jobs, not IT. Sounds like they just have bad management skills then. The CIO & IT directors are suppose to hire competent people, who they can trust and listen too their input. Because their employees would be the experts on the matter

Can't upvote this enough. A CIO is a business role primarily. Should they understand IT, sure. Should they have a clue, of course. But this is department management role, not a technical decision maker role. If you put an IT person there, which you can, they had better have some crazy good business skills and they had better not try to use their IT skills to micromanage or you have a disaster. No competent manager is going to micromanage, that's a newbie entry level management mistake, but bad companies promote bad people.

I have a couple of games that I can play on an old Lappy running Xubuntu.
With my growing distaste for the way that Windows and Microsoft work, it is good to know that if at any stage it all gets too much, I can still play games that others play.

This is going to be a very interesting one to watch. QT has long been a great widget toolset and available cross platform. Adding a layer of robustness for Windowing on top of that from the great folks at the KDE project has a lot of promise. These guys know desktops well.

That's true. Don't know if they can afford to keep that up these days, though.

My first guess from how the design looks is that the processor board will be cheap, and that board that has the M.2 slot, USB3, video connector (couldn't see it), etc will be more expensive than it should be.
