My first phone number in New York was previously owned by an Arab guy with tons and tons of debt, there were debt collectors calling literally all day, 7 days a week, and sometimes late into the night. It was pretty amazing. It was a 212 number so I didn't want to change, they said I'd have to get a 646 (this was at the time that just started).
So, I just turned off my answering machine and turned off the ring for my phone (it had a switch, would've disconnected it otherwise), but sometimes when I picked up my phone to make a call, there'd be someone there accusing me of being this guy. It never ended.
