It was really frustrating setting Imgur up, because you didn't get a sign in like a normal app when we did it (this is 2014.) Crazy confusing to use, because you registered and got the API info, but no account to use.

Looks like you have to register at some point. And there seems to be a header when imgur API's are accessed and that how they know which account it is that is posting the image.
If you can check what that is, you'll know your client id.

    From https://api.imgur.com/:

    Register an Application (IMPORTANT)

Each client must register their application and receive the client_id and client_secret.
For public read-only and anonymous resources, such as getting image info, looking up user comments, etc. all you need to do is send an authorization header with your client_id in your requests. This also works if you'd like to upload images anonymously (without the image being tied to an account), or if you'd like to create an anonymous album. This lets us know which application is accessing the API.

    Authorization: Client-ID YOUR_CLIENT_ID

Yes, you register. But during the registration process, at least in 2014, there was no "account login" involved. No username or password. There was registration and the API / secret. But can we use that to log in?

No, doesn't look like you can use that to login. It actually looks like you can't remove images using the API either - if they have been uploaded anonymously with your client_id. You need the deletehash value from each upload mentioned earlier in this thread and it look like nodebb imgur plugin doesn't save that info. So no dice.

I think @JaredBusch has another setup. He tied the application to his imgur user account - by getting the client id/secret for the webapp from imgur while being logged in.

So when images are posted to imgur using the client id Jared got, they will automatically belong to his user account.

How do you get a client if and secret without an account?

I used My twitter log in to make the imgur account forever ago. Long before I made the api creds. I would never do it that way in today’s world.

But Scott had examples where some Wall St firm was doing wacky (but acceptable) stuff and showed that the OS had bad code.. but they refused to fix it because the Wall St company was using LTS, not the latest version. So there was no 3rd party problem here, there was an OS problem in that case.

How many times does the opposite exist? Where LTS is the only thing supported?

From a Linux POV - I have no clue.

I went to MicroCenter tonight and was looking at laptops. I had a salesperson ask what I was looking for. I got a strange look when I said I wanted W10 Home cause it would get wiped anyway. I don't think she thought I was serious.

@PhlipElder sweet flower pic! I spent most of a year taking flower pics at my parents house. Totally basic camera though.

Thanks. Unfortunately, a camera kit is out of the question for us right now thus the pursuit of a lens kit for my iPhone X which takes half decent pics ... just a crappy camera app that is nowhere near as good as the Microsoft one was.

I'm getting the cash. 10 years of credit monitoring is worthless, same with their insurance. It won't prevent identity or credit card theft. And their reaction time is piss poor, you'd get a notice 1-3 months later of someone opens new account in your name, and by that time crook will probably charge thousands. Credit freeze is the only option and they don't offer that. Discover bank offers credit monitoring for free to anyone: https://csp.discover.com/free-credit-score/index.html

Who doesn't offer Credit Freeze? All three of the credit agencies offer credit freezes now - for free. It was a law passed a shortish while ago.

I managed to freeze Experian and Equifax 2 years ago.. but had issue getting into Transunion... well, in that time, it's become free and all three have made it much easier (though still not brain dead easy) to freeze unfreeze your credit). As of this morning I have all three frozen.

What I meant was they didn't list that as an option in settlement, instead they offered some useless services. If you don't know about credit freeze in first place, you won't get it. And even if you do, you have to do all the work, and you have to contact all 4 credit bureaus.

You're absolutely right - and as Scott will undoubtly say/agree with - of course they won't do that, that is counter to their business, against their shareholders, etc.

Yes, I just talked to another friend who is a designer.

He said that basically the PMS color is "out of gamut" (the ! in the software) and the software does as good a job as it can to color match it.

That is why it is different, and it technically correct, or as correct as it can be.

The hex values are also apparently "web safe" colors. Not sure why they picked those, as I don't think it is applicable anymore, but what the heck.

Man ... learned a lot of graphics today!

Change the web safe colors to the closest instead. Web safe was way, way back in the days (about 20 years ago) when you had 8-bit color graphics adapters and you had to use a palette to spread those colors over the entire color spectrum.

Heck, that was so long ago this was a trip down memory lane for me...

I use Facebook as a way to keep in touch with family and friends who don’t live close to me. I use FB Messenger to talk to my wife throughout the work day. If I wasn’t in IT I doubt I’d have a phone with internet. I’d prefer to be disconnected from the world. I’d rather be on my boat fishing all day.

I was doing that (family and stuff), but honestly, it seems like if people don't move to something else to talk to, not a big deal.

15 years ago, before Facebook - what did you use to keep in contact with your family? I don't know about you - buy my answer was - oh yeah - nothing. We didn't stay in contact and we didn't feel like we were missing anything - otherwise we would have found a way to stay in contact.

15 Years ago? Ha... We were using Skype and IRC.

Edit: The old man still runs his own IRC server for like 5 friends.

    ICU? MSN Messenger? AIM?

Heh, there are some vague memories in there of those in the latter part of the 1990s early 2000s.

Most of my family didn't have internet until the mid to late 2000's. Even then, didn't use it much until smartphones and tablets. Chat is something my family has never used. by family I mean -my mom/dad/brothers.

The biggest way we still communicate is either SMS or a phone call.

I've been online since the mid 90's.

SMS seems to be one of the better ones. I've been texting my brothers-in-law back and forth quite a bit over the last few years. We've become quite good friends.

I tend a mail list for family members with regular postings of pictures and events that are happening in our family life such as home school and extra curricular stuff. They generate a fair amount of e-mail exchanges and a few phone calls here and there.

Effort. Just like a garden family takes effort. FB is much too much like, "I can feel really good about myself keeping family in touch" without ever reaching out to them to talk to them ... to show interest in their lives.

    [/SOAPBOX]

It can, that's for sure - but email is a horrible way to have a conversation. Just like these forums aren't what I consider great for conversation. That's because they aren't meant for short super fast exchanges. A conversation (i.e. talking) is a group going back and forth at a good clip. While that sometimes happens here, the problem with forums is that it's so difficult to keep up at times. In the time I made this post, it's possible 5 people have posted... I go to read those 5 posts, and another 30 posts are up and I've forgotten what I wanted to add about the first 5 posts, etc.

The short quick replies like you see in FB comments definitely seems more engaging for actual conversation - than that flame wars still don't break out all the time all over the place.

I was saying bad faith in the other direction, attempting to start a business under the same name as a domain name that was already in use.

He clearly states it's for a brand, not a company.

Same thing, though. Attempting to start a new brand that is already in use.

Purchased and parked is not in use. It is “available for the right price.”

Is no one reading what I wrote? I specified everything that people have said in my original statement.

@Skyetel People like to defend the weirdest things.

The only purpose of any business is to make profit. It is not like this is a secret.

Now this I most definitely disagree with.

I will agree that most businesses want to make a profit - while at the same time, not trying to squeeze out every last time of legit legal profit - instead making enough profit to the CEO's/owner's happiness...

You are injecting your own bias in here.

The purpose of the business is to make a profit.
The purpose of the CEO is to be happy.
Those are not mutually exclusive things.

Except that the CEO actually sets the purpose of the business - unless it's a publicly held company then it is more about profits, though the CEO can still make it not about ultimate profits.

No, you are not correct. A business is about profit. The people running the business in a way that is not that, are not running a business. They are running a hobby, or a charity simply to provide employment for no reason, etc. But they are not running a business.

I sleep with a smart watch on my wrist and a phone under my pillow. I am bound to wake up.

Phone under pillow would never work for me.. two things 1) I move so much the phone would be under the bed for sure, 2) it would be to muffled and I'd sleep through any vibration.

The watch though... that might help.

I move a lot and it stays put. I don''t have a case, so the phone is very smooth. It doesn't shift around from the pillow moving.

I can wake up from vibrations from a phone a floor away so....

lucky/unlucky you... I could sleep through a tornado taking the roof off.

This could also work. If your carrier is Verizon, it is usually slightly more painful to do.

It is, plus that means rebuilding the whole eco.. If I am going to do that, I will get a new phone too.

I've been reading around different forums, I am one of several million people very unhappy about this update!

Not necessarily... Root the phone, install a custom OS, and then install the Google Apps for that OS, and you're good. I just finally (after 2 years) rooted my 1st gen Pixel XL.

This path is like rabbit hole, sure you feel great, but you rarely get better phone afterwards. I had Lenovo a6000 and it was amazing for flasing, very easy but you rarely get better results from the one given to you, and back in the day the community was more vibrant about flashing, now you will get literally a rom done by only 1 person.

Pick and choose wisely... A good custom rom allows you to change things and eek a little bit more life out of your phone without utterly destroying your hardware. I rooted a Droid Eris and (ab)used that poor phone for 4 years.

My Pixel is coming up on 3 and I'm just now rooting it. It runs better than it ever has before. I will grant you that Custom ROMs are very much YMMV!

I have UPNP + NAT-PMP enabled. I'll disable them and test things out when I have a chance.
