Ok, I resolved this problem by reverting back to 29.73.0.50. As soon as the phone finished booting with the 29.73.0.50 firmware, I heard the CS540 base click active. I pushed the button on the headset to deactivate it and I knew it was going to work before i even picked it up to test.

This does not explain why the EHS previously worked with 29.80.0.60.

After confirming everything working correctly, I upgraded to 29.80.0.60. The headset no longer worked correctly. I downgraded back to 29.73.0.50 and it worked correctly again.

This is a problem with the new firmware for the phone and obviously not a problem with the 3.16.0.0 EHS firmware.

Email sent to yealink support. Hopefully this will be resolved in future firmware.

Just so you know, you can definitely make a small WordPress site work well on the $5/month option. There's some stuff you will want to be able to do in Linux/WordPress before doing it on a production VPS, namely swap file management in Linux and site caching in WordPress, but once you have those down you might be able to save some money on hosting 🙂

Might be worth trying out if and when you do a test restore of your site. If you do want to test it out, keep in mind you'll have to do the restore from a WordPress-level backup and not a Digital Ocean server snapshot/backup - they don't let you restore those to a smaller-sized VPS.

With all that said, their $10/month option is what I would pick if I were planning on hosting a forum on the same server.

I feel like it is pretty low, but we'd have to look up some old ServerBear results from some other servers.

Yes of course, we've been using it for years and other non-updated NodeBB forums attached to it still work just fine. It is the new plugin update that broke it.

I expected as much, simple to do.

This can happen from time to time. Normally it is your browser having an issue.

Yes, I'm not aware of any business process that would have you changing the kernel in Ubuntu. That's a fun thing to try for a hobby just to see if you can, but it is not a normal business process as it does not lead to stability and reliability. Imagine running Windows XP but deciding to install the Windows 10 kernel. Not likely going to work and no business has ever tried to do this. But it might be fun to know "if you could."

In that case, let's work on moving to good business experience. This is the kind of thing that your old boss would have had you do. Do not use VMware Workstation. If you need a type 2 hypervisor, first thing is to get the current Ubuntu, not an old one, and then use VirtualBox.

I often try to estimate just a tiny bit high, look at the real needs when given available overhead and tune down.

Example: Give a PBX 1GB of RAM. Watch the real usage as well as caching and buffering over time. Then decrease until caching and buffering have enough overhead but only just enough. On a typical PBX this means we decrease to around 800MB.
