@VoIP_n00b The email said the following
"First off, thank you all for your support of MangoCon. Due to the current crisis, we are postponing MangoCon 2020. We have not yet picked a new date, but are hopeful we can reschedule sometime later this year. We are monitoring the situation, and plan to reschedule once a safe date can be established.
Your tickets will still be honored for the rescheduled event, and we hope that you will still be able to attend.
Due to these uncertain times, we are also offering a refund for your ticket purchase if you prefer this option. If you would like a refund, please send a reply to this email and we will initiate the process. Again, we hope that you will attend the rescheduled event, and look forward to seeing you soon!"
There is no other information. If you prepaid, then we have a record of it under the email you used to purchase the ticket. With your email, we can initiate a refund if that is what you would prefer.
Is a virtual conference possible?
-
@IRJ We are discussing this option. We will likely do both a live stream and a live event once the all clear has been issued.

Possible, yes. Decided on, no. We only just found out what the venue situation is / is going to be so only just now at a point where we can consider the options.

That makes sense. I would like to see it opened up to more people that could attend. It will really cut costs, and of course avoid all the issues we will obviously have for the next several months (at minimum).
Could there be a meetup separate from the conference? I dont see why the two have to be connected especially considering the circumstances.

Kinda hard to get your company to pay for a meetup that has no technical content, etc.

Most places are offering their virtual conferences free right now. My Hashicorp conference in October is been switched to virtual they are refunding my money and offering it free virtual since the only real overhead is paying their employees to present via Zoom session. Redhat did the same thing as did many others like KnowBe4 and HITRUST.
If there was a cost for a virtual mangocon, I would assume it would be minimal.

All that makes sense, though not sure what it has to do with my quoted post about getting a company to pay for a meetup that wasn't around a conference with content?

Why do you need your company to pay for it if it's virtual? That was my point.

OH - I guess I don't see a meetup as a virtual thing, I assumed you meant a later in person meetup.

It seems like best case scenario for in person meetup is probably in the fall, but even many conferences are canceling then.
