Is there no blasted way to get around the damned 07b stop error? Since XenServer doesn't have a standard BIOS for a VM, there's no way to change HDD controllers, etc. I'm at my wits end. I even tried to use Unitrends to do a bare metal restore and even THAT didn't work.

I was told to have this system up by today, and as it stands, I have to babysit a VMware 6 server now just to run this fricking VM.

If it's a running machine doesn't XenServer have Physical to Virtual tools?

Tried them. Same thing. I've even used Starwind's V2V, also the same thing. Server 2003 R2 is XP based so it hates hardware changes. Once upon a time I used to be good with getting the 07b to go away, but I've long since forgotten my tricks.

I have used BartPE which had a re-set HD0 type command. Sometimes that worked.

So this VM has RAID controllers installed to it, is that the issue?

The system that it was on long ago was a single HDD in an old HP server. It was converted to VMware, and I'm trying to retire VMware in favor of XenServer since there's no budget for Essentials+ (or better) on VMware.

That being said, the VMware transition was recent with no issues according to documentation. It's only when moving to Xen that it's throwing kittens.

I'm going to try BartPE next, I was using Hirens XP mode to dink around with files and such in the system32 folder, but that's not going to hold a lot of water with me.

Have you attempted to use VMWares P2V conversion tool to the open format?

I had something similar where I P2V a Dell server first to VmWare, then over to HyperV. Worked on VmWare, but Hyperv gave the STOP error. If I remember correctly the dell PERC driver was still installed on the 2003 box, and after the second conversion I had to hop in there and get rid of it, then tweak the boot.ini. I wish I could remember the exact way I did it.

Can you take some screenshots (or record the screen and post the video) of what is happening when you try to boot this system on XenServer.

ShareX works great for this. (if you are using XenCenter or XO to manage the hypervisor)

There's nothing special about it. You turn it on, the scroll bar goes one loop, then presto, BSOD. alt text

I had these same problems, and like @jt1001001 I can't recall now how I solved them.

It was definitely related to both the RAID drivers (or lack there of - drivers for storage in XS) and the boot.ini

I had to boot with a Win2k3 CD into repair mode to get things fixed.

and that would be swell, except for one teensy little problem.

The repair disk ruins Sharepoint. And it's not a Sharepoint anyone would WANT to run today.

                                Sharepoint 3.0

                                Thus the issue.

I found this in one of my old email to a college, I think this is what I did then had to re-convert the system after I did it

Unfortunately no help, I've been through that entire Microsoft article. Thanks though. 🙂

in VMWare, what hardware devices do you have installed? You'll need to go to the advanced section and have it show deivces not currently installed/found, whatever they call it.

@Coloradogeek Do you have any choices on the SCSI controller?

I mean inside the VM, not at the ESXi level.
