I always though a Ocean liner has a destination IE it's a form of transportation.

Cruise liners are the destination IE they have all the needed attractions on board, with a few small shoping/sight seeing stops.

I've never been on either so I likely have no clue what I'm talking about

That's a good succinct description, I'd say it's fairly accurate, but there are other differences as well.

I can't imagine having enough vacation time that I would want to waste any of it on an Ocean Liner. If I'm going to Europe... I wanna fly so I'm there in one day... then spend my 2 weeks on the ground there.

Otherwise I'd be looking at 4 days there, 4 days back. and only 2-4 days on the land... I suppose if you just want to relax and read and be completely disconnected.. fine.. but that's not a vacation to me.. that would bore me out of my mind!

Scott seems to get a lot of vacation time.. maybe we'd get tired of being on vacation if we had that much.

Scott is so highly paid that he doesn't 'enjoy' normal employment (I'm guessing). He can choose what jobs he wants to work and for how long.. then take as much time off before a new one comes along... oh the life 🙂

Or run a pornography empire, I take a lot of vacation time but I also run things whilst on vacation as well.

then you really aren't on vacation.

You sound like every woman that's left me for being a workaholic. I'm the type of person that can't ever relax, ever.

HA! I completely understand... that said - I can relax.. but am fortunate enough to have a boss that demands when I'm off, that I'm off... when I was in europe a few years ago.. she threatened me when I was checking my email etc... as IT folk.. it's just something we do...

I'd never do something like that to my employees, but I have with some suggested they do go on vacation, some get obsessed like me. They don't have to listen though. I realise there's a fear of burn out or possibly even breakdown, but so far the only people like that I've had are the border-line autistic types who seem to almost be more relaxed when working than "relaxing."

It's a complete disconnect between career choices. And my situation is extremely rare. Hell in a one man shop I would think most IT personal would think they could never take a cruise or leave the country.... in this case I consider myself fortunate as I can and have done both.

I've never been in a one man shop but, was always required to check email, and phone messages and have VPN access if available at every job I've had while on vacation.

I think you can read more about one man shops in the Divine Comedy
