If it is magnets it would have to be a fully magnetic skate park. That would be pretty hard to do.

@scottalanmiller they have a design concept for one on their site. Agreed that it would be expensive - I'd see this as a thing you put in malls or amusement parks, like the bungee cord trampolines.

Yeah I did drop a small bundle on one of the perks.
It is based on magnetics - though the board is what is generating the field, the surface over which you ride has to be surface needs to be a non-ferromagnetic conductor.

It's definitely not as useful as a hoverboard that can work on anything save water
but I wouldn't call it a moot tech. -

If your scope is narrow to only look at the application of a skateboard - you'll have to use it at skateparks where you pay a fee to play.
But the tech can be useful in other ways (possibly) I'm thinking medical, and manufacturing, etc.
It may never make it to our homes, but we'll see it in amusement parks, and other places.

Basically it is like a vehicle that isn't autonomous. There are use cases for that, but relatively few. And it is hard to find one for a hoverboard. We already have this technology and don't really use it much. What makes this special if the surface is required?

What technology are you talking about? fans? like a helicopter?

Floating magnets. We've had that since I was little. They make trains that work on that, just don't use them in the US.

This was big news when I was a little kind (three decades ago.) Now the technology today isn't as cold as that was, so it is a lot more casual to use. But doesn't look very useful. -

Not sure it's up to neat status yet.Now a personal quadcopter that you can fly around? That's neat. I can actually buy one and do something really cool with it. This, I can't even play with this at home.

The first time I saw a flyboard, I was out wade fishing by myself in the lagoon. I stopped and watched the guy for 15 straight minutes trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
There is a place near one of my fishing holes where you can rent them. So now I see them all the time.
