End of day reboots are the best. Machine is up for work, but nothing is logged in and the machines don't stay booted up indefinitely.

Yeah, I'm going to look into this as well, if not a daily reboot, definitely a weekly one - for all but my boss, ug.. I just can't ever get her to close her apps when she leaves - it's a constant battle - she (as the boss) just simply refuses to close down at the end of the day - claiming she can jump right in the following day.

I know windows was working on something for that - some way of knowing all things that were open at say 4 PM yesterday, and bring all that stuff back up with a click of a button... I need to look into that for her.. might - might - be a saving grace.

yeah, that's not what I am talking about.

Timeline is what I was talking about.

I never really used Timeline before but it does look useful.

Timeline - In looking at it on my machine - it just seems like a random snap in time... I can't be sure that was the last bunch of things I was doing when I left for the day.

It will only take a few days of lost work to get her to close her shit.

You'd think so - with at least a dozen lost work items in 4+ years.. still refuses to shut down her apps.

Don't spread it out. daily reboots would force the pain every day. Even farm animals respond to painful events by trying to not repeat them.

LOL - If I were the boss, I could do that. She has already ordered me to remove her from the monthly updates - so I have to nag her to do those manually, they can't be pushed to her via WSUS, because of reboots.

We might not agree with it or be happy about it.. but we (You and I) don't own the company, so we can only go so far. But, you already know that.
Now say something about how stupid she is so we can move on with our day.

Make sure you have a "get it in writing to remove HIPAA requirement automation."

Over a certain time frame, yeah. 🙂 That's going to be the big motivation here. Maybe he should even go to the owners and say "as you title me an IT decision maker, I meed a sign off to allow disregarding the law and a statement that I'm not allowed to follow HIPAA against my requirements, knowledge, and recommendations." Don't argue it, just make them state that they've accepted responsibility by demanding he not follow HIPAA.

But since automatic is disabled, he has no insight to know the time frame is being kept. So yeah.

Right, even if she promises to do it as HIPAA requires, he needs to be indemnified from that.
