Rackspace has web and IMAP functionality in their $1 package. You have to pay for ActiveSync additionally to get that functionality, raising the cost significantly. Rackspace is not meant for people that don't want to use Rackspace 🙂 It's intended to be a web-based email and it works extremely well that way.

The SPAM filtering used to be better than O365. Haven't used Rackspace Email in long enough to know today.

The cost is about the same when you add ActiveSync as O365. SPAM filtering is not as good as it used to be with Rackspace O365 seems to better but I haven't personally used them side by side.

Support isn't so great any longer, either.

      yeah that too

They are saying no IMAP anymore and only a $2/month plan. I just thought I would check it out in case I cant migrate 0365 from one account to another quickly. Maybe an interim solution.

I notice Synology has a mail system. Not sure if anyone has used it.

Almost everything can have a mail system.. the point is you don't want to.

They did? They have made a really big deal on SW about it still being $1. It's not super recent, but I'm pretty sure it is still on their page there. Did you verify that that was the SW secret price, because if you don't, they have to quote the doubled price.

Can't imagine anyone using it. That feels pretty crazy. If you want something really quick and dirty for cheap, that's not how to do it. Fire up a Zimbra system if that is what you want.

Zoho is still free and has ActiveSync for mobile. Desktop has some connector for outlook or IMAP but the web client is really nice.

That's right Zoho is pretty decent. I'd give that a try if you are in the size range.

Zoho is great. Awesome free email and a lot of features. Their mobile app is good, too.

@stacksofplates Was actually looking at Zoho's udpated email interface and curious as to whether my few Windows users would have MAPI or IMAP for Outlook. But alas it seems you can not mix the plans (yet).

@scottalanmiller Does Zimbra have actual MAPI support?

Zimbra itself does not have ActiveSync, but there is a free module for it that I have not used that provides this. So with some work, it should do what you want.

Ya they would have IMAP or use the outlook plugin. What do you mean mix plans? Like some free and some paid?

@stacksofplates yeah that's what I was getting at.

Is the outlook plugin as good as exchange?

I did get confirmation from support that I can open a new 365 account and remove domain, wait an hour, add domain to new account.

And I guess I am not sure if we are talking about the new Zoho Mail, which is pretty impressive looking or if you Zimbra...

I'm using Zoho for 17 people in the company.

Amazing free service, I like a lot how to manage the settings, the control panel for admins is great.

It's just a protocol, so I would think so.

I cant' answer for that. I've never used it, just know it exists.

Honestly I can't believe how far Zoho has come since 2009 when I last used it. Now if they would only change the daycare looking logo of theirs. Their product interfaces are modern and attractive but their website product icons and logo are very off-putting.

And coincidentally they seem to have a stripe.com integrated payment and management platform like the one I was looking for in a previous post I made here...

That's very true. They make it very hard to take them seriously. It doesn't give the impression that it is meant for business use.
